Can't start recording

GifCapture Version: 1.1.0 (1) [latest GitHub release] OS: macOS Catalina 10.15.4

I downloaded GifCapture, which looks promising (a simple screen to GIF recorder), however whenever I click "Record", click File>>Record, or use the hotkey (cmd+R), nothing happens.

This is using the latest release on GitHub. The same issue occurs when installing from Homebrew.

I can confirm this is still an issue on 10.15.6 for me, installed via homebrew. Gifcapture does trigger a "wants to record this computer's screen" but after blessing it in System Preferences and re-launching, it still won't record.

Having perhaps the same or a similar problem on Big Sur 11.2.3. Started from the shell (iTerm) in hopes to get additional diagnostic output, but it's fairly limited:
