POwer the rPi zero directly form the GPIO
Hello
more of a question than a feature request, but if possible it would be good to add it to the documentation.
It seems that the rPi zero can be powered via the GPIO, unsing a 5V 2A power supply.
In this case, could I just wire it to the same power connector that would power the LED strip ?
Has anyone tried?
Would the 6A recommended power brick still work or should I upgrade it to 8A? (asking cause it's in my shopping cart ATM and I want to be sure I'm buying the right thing)
thanks in advance.
I used 6A and I'm using it to power both the LED strips and the Pi and it's enough. I didn't realize the power could go to the GPIO, so I cut a USB cable and connected the power to its cables and plugged that into the Pi.
Just make sure to make separate connections from the power supply to each the LED strip and the Pi. (i.e. don't connect it to only the Pi and expect that 6A to run through the Pi to the LED strip.
Thanks! That's all the info I needed. Yeah the plan would be to power both in parallel, i.e. pull 2 pairs of wire from the power connector, one to the LED strip and one to the rpi zero
