:terminal always open up in a new horizontal split which restricts the way of splitting up your workspace

In nvim i'm used to be able to open up a terminal in the current window/buffer. (if it's empty)

Having it in a new split (and always horizontal) restricts the freedom of layouting my workspace via splits.

It would be great if there would be a parameter of how to place the new terminal window like: (vertical, horizonal, current buffer)

You could make the default on horizontal, so that nothing changed if you don't put a parameter to the command...
