Fees Research: Current yearly cost of operating node types

Open pgebheim opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

In order to understand the ROI for node operators in terms of their staking rewards we need to understand the baseline costs for running the services they are providing.

Since dapper labs currently runs nodes of each type for both testnet and mainnet, we can look at real world data and create some estimations of how these costs will change given transaction volume increases, storage usage, etc.

Goals

  1. Identify the current running cost of each node type within GCP given the hardware currently required to successfully operate each node type. This estimates should be normal case not lower bound (e.g. perhaps a verification node can be run with less memory, but doing so means that it needs to be babysat more).

  2. Come up with a model for this cost based upon transaction throughput growth and state growth.

is there any update on this? At lease maybe we can push some numbers here and brainstorm openly ?
