Hey, 7z is not available everywhere - I think it's wise to provide normal zip archives.

I am trying to find 7z portable for windows that is not a 7z package ... https://www.7-zip.org/download.html What I am missing? :D

edit: there is one! from 2010 I think

I'm having a look at spinel-coop/rv to try and add support to RubyInstaller, but unfortunately there aren't well maintained 7zip libraries in crates.io.

It would be great to use zip as a fallback option, although I understand the added maintenance cost.

Is https://crates.io/crates/sevenz-rust2 not OK? It should be able to extract current 7z files.

Thanks for coming back to this.

It might be possible, but I'd have to check with the maintainers if they're willing to include 7z in rv. I'd suspect it would be an easier sell if it was in zip format, but I'll give it a shot.
