What are the prospects for this repo?

Open coisnepe opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Hi, I just tried to use this package and have noticed a couple of bugs, unresolved issues opened for several years, unaddressed opened pull requests also, and the last commit as of today was 18 months ago. Do you plan on maintaining this repo or should the community fork it to keep it going? Thank you!

Uncanny that I came here to ask this same question just 5 hours after you! @jamesweakley @dataders @comaraDOTcom a response would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hi @coisnepe and @bakerwho,

Totally agree that the repo has been gathering dust. I don't use it personally anymore and to be honest it's been difficult to gauge the level of active community interest.

Since creating this, dbt have launched Python models. This means for Snowflake, BigQuery and Databricks users there's not a lot of benefit in this package anymore since you can just use scikit-learn directly.

That said, if there are still use cases where this package is relevant then I'm happy to add you both as maintainers so that you can contribute directly, and existing users can benefit.

Hey @jamesweakley, thanks for taking the time to reply. I'd be happy to give you whatever support I can, as a maintainer or otherwise. Would you still keep an oversight on the project just to make sure it doesn't veer in the "wrong" direction and stays true to what omnata-labs intended it to do?

Great! I've added you as a maintainer. I'll certainly keep some oversight of the project.
