Partners should not be able to remove someone unless they consent or get approval from an instructor
We had a student who had their partner remove them and was very distraught. It doesn't make to sense to let people remove partners and can cause a lot of distress.
Perhaps this can be a per course setting (e.g. allow students to remove group members)
You'd also have to build in permissions to only let course staff remove members.
Considering this is the first time it's caused serious issues in ~3 years, I'd lean towards not supporting this but I get where you are coming from, people have access to someone's history of submissions once it's accepted.
Would adding a email notification (cc'ing the staff) with some friendly copy solve it?
