All filetypes have the same color

I have alias ls="exa -abgh --icons --color-scale" in my ~/.zshrc. I have proper color support but every filetype has the same style for some reason. Is there a way to change that to something similar to the images in the readme?

Edit: this only happens when I'm in a /mnt/{letter} folder, for example in ~ I have proper colors. Is it related to WSL somehow?

What does the output of this say?

$ env | grep LS_COLORS

If you don't know about the $LS_COLORS system variable you need to read about that and how to form it using the dircolors command in your ~/.zshrc file. (I'm assuming zsh works in the same way as bash in this regard).

After you know about that you need to also $ man exa_colors, which allows you to change the colors on exa specific things as well as some groups of files (although I think it's easier to do that in your dir_colors theme file).

This is my LS_COLORS. It seems that 777 permission prevents proper coloring: Is there a way to ignore permissions and only use the format for coloring?

Oh I missed that. No, they are coloured like that because you have made given them executable permissions. Why have you done that? You do not want to ignore permissions and you do not want to make everything executable.

If these are on an NTFS partition, there isn't anything you can do. It's better to do work in the Linux partition when using WSL.

I didn't make them executable. This is how they were created on Windows. There's no way to make exa ignore it and make coloring to be based off file extensions only?

exa is not for NTFS. It doesn't understand the ACLs on NTFS as it's not a Windows program. If your files are not on an NTFS partition, you need to fix them after reading up on Linux file permissions.

It's fine if you want things to be broken, as now executables aren't coloured as executables in the Linux partition.

I do wonder if there could be an additional check to see if the filesystem is NTFS and therefore only colour .exe files as executable.
