New approach to messenger

Hi guys!

Have you tried Chrome plugin Facebook Chat Pop-Outs ?

It seems to be exactly what I expect from such a standalone messanger (just popped-out window). It seems to add some CSS to the FB page and creates external messenger experience in all ways except for that it is still shown as browser window in task bar.

I guess it can be acheived in a standalone app for ubuntu utilizing web browser engine.

What do you think?

Just tried it, and it seems pretty clean. The one major feature I'd want is being able to pop up a new window at me when I get a message. I don't know if that's possible with this kind of design though.

UPD: I am now using Firefox Standalone extension which seems to magically work in Ubuntu 14.10 - I just opened messages page in FB and then clicked "install as app" and FB messenger page appeared in available apps in lens.

I just fixed it to launcher panel at my favourite position and it does exactly what I want: My favourite Super-6 combination now switches to the right chat app! This is another example of how this would be done in absolutely legit and fulfilling manner. I even imagine that this 'launcher' that is created by 'Standalone' plugin can be directly put into a *.deb and pushed to ppa?
