Hardwired MAC

Open barthanssens opened this issue 10 years ago • 0 comments

In protocols/ipv6b.rst it is mentioned that

"Each datalink layer interface includes a unique hardwired MAC address"

Well, perhaps it's not really hardwired all the time: some vendors (e.g. http://www.sdadapters.com/faq.htm) actually allow one to change the MAC address quite easily via firmware.

The MAC addresses are indeed supposed to be unique, although people have reported cheap / counterfeited NICs with the same MAC
