LuLu is very slow on Big Sur 11.1 with M1

Open dannykorpan opened this issue 4 years ago • 13 comments

Hi,

as soon as I'm enabling LuLu, internet browsing in Firefox, Chrome or Edge is very very slow. The webpages needs over 5-10 seconds for a response/to load. If I'm disabling LuLu webbrowsing is normal.

Using an MacBook Pro M1, 16 GB RAM with macOS Big Sur 11.1.

Any suggestions?

Kind Regards

Hi,

I can confirm this bug. Every internet connection is extremly slow. Webpages need up to 15 seconds for loading. After disabling Lulu everything works as fast as normal / expected.

Using Macbook Pro 2017, issues under macos 11.1 and 11.2., Lulu 2.2.0 If this helps: Behavior appears with an normal user account (non-admin).

Thank you.

Kind Regards,

Michael

This is not a problem related to M1!

I can also confirm this behaviour under 11.2.1 and a fresh installed LuLu 2.3. on a MBP 16 2020. Webpages do load very slow, parts of sites -like f.e. search input fields- are "broken" and do not work, even after webpages were completely loaded. Appears on every browser. Disabling LuLu instantly fixes the problem while it reappears when re-enabling again.

Sorry about this! Any additional info would be super helpful:

  1. Can you confirm the extension has been approved? (System Prefs -> Security & Privacy) image

  2. Can you confirm the extension is running (System Prefs -> Networking) image

  3. What does systemextensionsctl list show?

systemextensionsctl list
12 extension(s)
--- com.apple.system_extension.network_extension
enabled	active	teamID	bundleID (version)	name	[state]
*	*	VBG97UB4TA	com.objective-see.lulu.extension (2.3.0/2.3.0)	Extension	[activated enabled]
  1. Can you run the following in the terminal, then toggle LuLu off/on ...and see if there are any error msgs/other log msgs of relevance? log stream --level debug --predicate="subsystem='com.objective-see.lulu'"

Thank you!!

Hi, I can confirm this behavoir on my MacBook Pro 2017 (Intel) with macOS 11.2.1 and Lulu 2.3 as well:

  1. -> yes, extension has been approved
  2. -> yes, extension is running
  3. -> output: --- com.apple.system_extension.network_extension enabled active teamID bundleID (version) name [state]
    • VBG97UB4TA com.objective-see.lulu.extension (2.3.0/2.3.0) Extension [activated enabled]
  1. -> no error messages

Thanks @miba99!

Could you run log stream --level debug --predicate="subsystem='com.objective-see.lulu'" ...and stop/start LuLu?

I'm interested in any output, as this will hopefully shed light into where LuLu is getting stuck, or if network traffic isn't being routed through, etc. etc.

Thanks @miba99, ...just pushed a new version with a host of improvements: https://github.com/objective-see/LuLu/releases/tag/v2.3.1

Can you give it a whirl and let me know if it addresses the issue?

Thanks again! Appreciate the feedback 🙏🏽

Same here. No changes under 2.3 > 2.3.1. MacOS 11.2.2, MBP 16" Activated debug with terminal. Hope that helps.

same here, M1 and slow on some pages. Not on all though. Seems arbitrary but github for example is an example where it is slow quite often.

Getting the same here, Mac OS 11.4, Macbook Air M1.

I restarted Macbook, router, wifi AP but nothing changed. It all came back to normal after Lulu uninstall.

If I can provide logs or metrics, feel free to reach. I'll reinstall and do the tests.

Hi,

I just installed the new version 2.3.1 and everything remains absolutly slow.

Regards, M.

After several months I decided to install Lulu again. Now I'm on macOS 12.0.1 with Lulu 2.4.1 and everything works fine. Imho this bug can be closed.

Regards, M.
