'organism identification assay' definition change

Open johnwjudkins opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

The definition for organism identification assay states that it identifies the "organism species". This is too restrictive because we work with data that identifies organisms in terms of genus, serotype, etc. I suggest a change to:

An assay that identifies an organism in a specimen with regard to taxonomic rank.

Edit: organism identification objective should similarly be changed.

Discussed 2022-10-10. Edit to "An assay that identifies an organism in a specimen with regard to taxon." Add example.

Using example: A PCR assay that identifies Poliovirus serotype Sabin 2 in a feces specimen
