Question about 'sequence annotation reporting role'

Open PhiBabs935 opened this issue 3 years ago • 4 comments

The Influenza Ontology has the term 'sequence annotator role' with the definition "The sequence annotator role is a study personnel role of a scientist who assigns a set of characteristics to a sequence for the purpose of documenting relevant information from experimental results to aid in their interpretation."

I was wondering whether the FLU term is suitable to be replaced by OBI's 'sequence annotation reporting role', "A reporting party role that is realized by a person or organization who reports the feature annotation results from the analysis of a macromolecular sequence"? The definition for OBI's 'sequence annotation' implies that the reporting role is realized during the annotation process.

Or should they be distinguished?

I ask because I have been working on an updated version of FLU for the IDO group, including replacing some older FLU terms with suitable OBI terms. There are also FLU terms I was hoping to suggest to be moved to OBI, but still working on compiling that list.

I think they are the same. It should be replaced.

Thanks Asiyah.

FLU also has 'sequence submitter role', "A sequence submitter role is a study personnel role that is responsible for sending sequence (DNA, RNA, Protein) data to a repository, usually GenBank." Perhaps this can also be replaced by OBI's 'sequence annotation reporting role'?

I would say it's possible you can be performing a sequencing submitter role, but not a sequence annotator role, so we would need 2 separate roles defined in OBI. OBI has "reporting party role" (OBI_0000068) with an alternative term "submitter" as the parent of the existing"sequence annotator role", so any new term request "sequence submitter role" should go under OBI_0000068, if it is needed. @PhiBabs935

In that, case I would request to have the FLU term 'sequence submitter role' added to OBI if appropriate. Here is a tentative definition, based on the original:

Reporting party role realized by a person that is responsible for submitting sequence (DNA, RNA, protein) data to a repository, such as GenBank.
