I'm wondering if it could be the search json that feeds into graphql - maybe they've changed the schema? I couldn't work out how to create a new query myself...

OK it's not the graphql query, I tested with a simple query and got the same errors. I think they might have implemented something to block this method :(

Is that line the only one to change? I have made the change to my worker.py (used 10,12) but still have workers dying off.

mariadb is basically an open source fork of mysql. It works the same (and when using it, you use mysql commands). See https://seravo.fi/2015/10-reasons-to-migrate-to-mariadb-if-still-using-mysql.
