first impressions
Hey, I just found this via your comments in MotionMate's issues, which I've been using for some time. Maybe you're interested in some first impressions.
- needing to import my motionmate data the first thing I noticed is that settings are still not discoverable and need to be accessed by tapping the step counter on the apps main page. there should be a cogwheel icon somewhere I think.
- the bars are all grey shades now? looks kind of unfriendly, but okay. maybe this could be a theming option
- good on you for removing activities, that feature was always more confusing than useful
- Stepsy loads automatically on restarting my phone, without having to fiddle with battery optimization, so that's nice :)

Latest version added a gear icon to replace the current logic, as this problem was highlighted in the very first issue ticket in this repo. I decided to change the chart to gray, but tones distinguish high and low values, I'm sure you'll like it. I'm not a real Android developer, just trying to put everything together and improve this app, while not going beyond the simplicity we all like. Theming and possible redesign may or may not come in the future, but the whole Material 3 migration is a bit complicated, at least for me.
At this point, it's probably all I wanted to implement, but I'm open to suggestions. I'll maybe try to add simple localization next, also the main screen needs some redesign, but I need more feedback first. Now that we have steps counting sorted out (better reliability), it's just a matter of what and how to display it.

Now I have used Stepsy for over a month (after using MotionMate half a year or so). Phone: Android 15, Samsung S22 Nothing to really fix or add. I like your app. No color, data available using good categories, just works, simple vanilla. Tested ten or so step apps over the years. I am maybe kind of similar to you, not a real developer, but capable of making my own app. After using Stepsy, I dropped off my thoughts of making the simple step app. If you go beyond the vanilla step counter for various people's needs like colored, sounded, messaging, disturbing, Google, device interfaces, etc. Please, keep this vanilla mode as a separate app or at least the default mode. This is simply the best. Thank you!
