Feature request: Make browse mode available everywhere
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please explain.
As far as I know, NVDA's scan mode is available in places like the web. However, we may want to use the single-letter navigation function using scan mode at any point in Windows. Let me give you a simple example: Open Windows update. Go to the end there. Normally, from what I see in Narrator, the very beginning of Windows update appears as heading level one. I might want to quickly go back by pressing shift1. When I enter here, I might want to quickly go to the Check for Updates option by pressing b. Or I might want to use the single-letter navigation function in an application I bought from the Microsoft Store, such as Whatsapp. However, since NVDA does not allow scan mode here, none of these are possible.
Explain your desired solution
It would be nice if NVDA could manually switch to scan mode at any desired location. I think this would also increase accessibility since it would provide more navigation functions.
Explain the alternatives you are considering
There is no need for a new feature, the scope of the existing scan mode feature can be expanded.
Additional context
@harun-342 You should check out the Enhanced Object Navigation add-on available in the add-on store. It doesn't enhance browse mode, but it allows you to use single letter navigation in most cases
@Emil-18 I think I know about this plugin, but what I'm curious about and want to see is if NVDA can do what Narrator can do.
I'm really worryed for the implementation of this feature. does it mean we will no longer have GUIs like now and every application will look like a web view? I don't really like web view, And I'll only use when I have too. So I don't want my every application to look like a web view in nvda.
@amirmahdifard If this is the case, this can be made optional so that everyone can have what they want, whoever wants can use it and whoever doesn't want it can turn it off.
yeah that would be ok
Hi, ObjPad add-on’s scan mode emulation offers one potential way – it closely mimics Narrator’s scan mode to read through window content regardless of object higherarchy. Thanks.
