If NVDA uses UIA with Chromium based browsers, page scrolling is broken in Microsoft Edge

Open k-kolev1985 opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Steps to reproduce:

  1. In NVDA's advanced settings, set the option "Use UIA with Microsoft Edge and other Chromium based browsers when available" to "Yes".
  2. Open a page with a lot of text and preferably no links in the text content. The following example should do it: example page.
  3. Press "D" to go to the "story content" main landmark.
  4. Start reading line by line with the down arrow key.
  5. Observe if the page view scrolls in sync with the currently read by NVDA text.

Actual behavior:

The page view does not scroll in sync with the currently read by NVDA text. Due to that, at some point the read text is so low on the page that it is no longer visible on the screen.

Expected behavior:

The page view should scroll in sync with the currently read by NVDA text, so the currently read text is always visible on the screen. If the NVDA option "Use UIA with Microsoft Edge and other Chromium based browsers when available" is set to "Default (Only when necessary)", the behavior is as expected.

System configuration

Other questions

Does the issue still occur after restarting your computer?

Yes, it does.

Have you tried any other versions of NVDA? If so, please report their behaviors.

No, because the option "Use UIA with Microsoft Edge and other Chromium based browsers when available" is available only in alpha versions of NVDA.

If add-ons are disabled, is your problem still occurring?

Yes, it is.

Did you try to run the COM registry fixing tool in NVDA menu / tools?

No, because the issue reported here is not relevant to it, I think.

@k-kolev1985 could you please test with NvDA 2024.1 and most current versions of Edge and Chrome with UIA enabled? Is this still an issue?

@Adriani90 Yes, the issue still occurs. The testing was done with NVDA alpha-31645,bf96860d and Microsoft Edge 124.0.2478.51. I don't use and don't have Chrome installed, so I can't confirm if it happens with it or not.
