Outdated GSoC 2022 Projects Displayed on Website

Open hellosamyak opened this issue 11 months ago • 11 comments

I noticed that the organization’s website still displays Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2022 projects in the "Programs" section. While exploring potential organizations for GSoC, this outdated information might cause confusion for new contributors who are looking for more recent or upcoming project details.

I’ve attached a screenshot of the page for reference: Screenshot 2025-01-12 170333

Would it be possible to update the page with:

  1. GSoC 2024 project details.
  2. Placeholder text or a notice indicating that the 2025 GSoC projects will be updated soon.

This update would improve clarity and provide contributors with the latest information.

I’d be happy to work on resolving this by updating the information or adding a placeholder message as needed.

If this sounds good, please let me know, and I can get started with a fix!

Thank you!

@Aarchi23 Thank you for acknowledging! Just to confirm, could a maintainer officially assign this issue to me before I proceed?

The website isn't controlled via this repo or github. It's a wordpress website and can only be updated by numfocus staff. This repo is supposed to be the source of truth and GSoC 2025 hasn't been officially announced yet from Google.

A repository to add comments / suggests / improvements to the NumFOCUS website exists but is not functional.

I asked around and -

We will definitely incorporate a place for feedback as well. For now, feel free to email [email protected] and we'll see what we can do.

i love to resolve this problem so for this we need to check the content management system(CMS)so where the GSoC 2022 projects are listed so we can update that part by

  • 2024 projects project details
  • and placeholder notice for GSoC 2025

Hi, I noticed multiple people have expressed interest in working on this. Since the website update involves WordPress and NumFOCUS staff coordination, I can help by:

Preparing the updated GSoC 2024 content in markdown/HTML format.

Drafting a placeholder notice for GSoC 2025.

Sharing the files so staff can directly add them to the CMS.

Please let me know if this approach works — I can start preparing the content right away and coordinate with whoever is updating the site.

This should be done once the move to the new website of numfocus is completed.

There is no action point here for contributors, numfocus staff should update the website.

GSoC 2025 is already underway.

Thanks for the clarification, @MridulS!

I understand now that the website update is handled by NumFOCUS staff and isn’t something contributors can directly modify.

If needed, I’m happy to assist by preparing the GSoC 2024 content in markdown/HTML or drafting a placeholder notice for GSoC 2025, so staff can easily update the CMS.

Just let me know if that would be helpful for future updates.
