In fact, this is already an abandoned project.

Hi ) Please make Nuked SC-55 VSTi version

The license is incompatible.

Would there be any appetite to using CLAP instead of VST? While CLAP is not currently supported by DAWS like Ableton, Audition or Logic, it is supported by Bitwig, Reaper, Carla and FL Studio and a whole host more (https://clapdb.tech/category/hostsdaws). Arguably more importantly, CLAP is MIT licensed, which I believe (obligatory IANAL) to be compatible with the project's MAME license. There are several frameworks for writing CLAP plugins which might be useful in authoring a plugin as well. clap-wrapper is also available for folks to chain-load the CLAP plugin as a VST3 or AU plugin, which could be left up to individual users to use should they want to use the plugin in a DAW that only supports loading plugins with license incompatible interfaces.

CLAP is very capable, and is in use by many plugin developers including u-he (Diva), Vital Audio (Vival) and VCV (VCV Rack Pro).

Building a plugin version is a huge ask, I recognize that, but I figure if there's any hope whatsover in the project supporting one, CLAP would be the plugin ABI to target.

It's already a CLAP plugin (the backend at least? I don't think there's a frontend GUI). It was created in a fork and then DOSBox-Staging provided integration for it in their latest builds.

Which is great. I just wish Cakewalk supported CLAP plugins. That's my DAW and I'm too deep into it to go to anything else now.

Oh neat! That's very exciting! Also I hear you re: changing DAWs, tool changes are expensive. You might get try using clap-wrapper to make a VST3 version for you to play with? Not sure how well that will work however - trying to load the CLAP plugin in Bitwig isn't getting me terribly far at the moment.

If anyone's still interested, VSTi support would be viable now as VST 3 has been relicensed to MIT.
