bumpversion is not maintained in over 5 years and the README recommends to use one of the maintained forks.

Would you accept a PR to use bump-my-version instead?

Related to #844. Hi @jgarte. Sorry for the long response time. We're in the process of updating our packaging and release tooling. I think your suggestion makes sense.
