Add teams, outlook, devhome, bing search, web experience (widgets), sticky notes, camera to be removed

Open adrijanh9 opened this issue 1 year ago • 18 comments

All 7 were present in my image (24H2) and wouldn't be removed by the current list of prefixes. All of them can be reinstalled via the Store.

Note: the web experience package is used for the widget bar in the lower left corner. Disabling the widget bar in the taskbar settings does NOT prevent it from running in the background, and it is still accessible using Win + W. Removing the package also removes the widget bar from the taskbar.

thanks for merging @ntdevlabs

can be merged independently from #268, didn't include it to avoid conflicts. #203 got included because of cleaning null into PShell.

Karl-WE avatar Nov 07 '24 02:11 Karl-WE

Pls hold off merging until next week, i've got one more package to add to the list + update the readme to reflect the changes

@adrijanh9 do you have some technical insight how to accomplish remvoval of settings > optional features. I have two PRs, one solved (Windows features). But no luck with the other in settings

Karl-WE avatar Nov 08 '24 07:11 Karl-WE

@Karl-WE i didn't have the time to look into it yet, but i guess you would use Disable-WindowsOptionalFeature cmdlet. Or are you saying you found a way to remove the optional features in Control panel but not the ones listed in settings?

adrijanh9 avatar Nov 08 '24 07:11 adrijanh9

Disable-WindowsOptionalFeature doesn't catch the Optional features in settings. It's ironic. Let's discuss on #270 over there if you like.

Karl-WE avatar Nov 08 '24 07:11 Karl-WE

Sigh. Yet another problem of the settings/control panel split. I will get to it over the weekend and maybe we can figure something out. Good idea to remove those though, never occured to me

adrijanh9 avatar Nov 08 '24 07:11 adrijanh9

I will mark the day they remove the old control panel. It's a UX nightmare for 10+ years now.

Karl-WE avatar Nov 08 '24 21:11 Karl-WE

That should be it for provisioned packages for now

adrijanh9 avatar Nov 08 '24 22:11 adrijanh9

You might want to spare camera. Cam might fail without this app even for other applications like Windows Hello or later installed Teams, Edge etc.

Not sure if this is still the case but in w10 there was once this relation.

Sticky is good as its the old one, deprecated anyway and optional.

Karl-WE avatar Nov 08 '24 22:11 Karl-WE

I didn't know that, thought it was a standalone thing. reverted.

adrijanh9 avatar Nov 08 '24 22:11 adrijanh9

I didn't actually know if this dependency is still there. If you have a cam you would need to spare a bit of free space and remove cam on w11h2 testing with Edge or Teams, Zoom if it is working.

Just if you have the time.

If you like I can also merge your change into my "RC" in case @ntdevlabs has time to discuss the PRs and merge.

Karl-WE avatar Nov 08 '24 23:11 Karl-WE

I don't have a cam, just a desktop so i can't test it. I guess i could open a issue and someone with a cam can try to remove it on their system and see if it breaks anything. Shouldn't be a problem since it can be reinstalled easily.

Yeah you can merge it.

adrijanh9 avatar Nov 08 '24 23:11 adrijanh9

OK will do myself. Spare the issue and time plz.

Karl-WE avatar Nov 08 '24 23:11 Karl-WE

Camera can be removed it's apparently uncoupled. Tested W11 24H2 Settings Bluetooth and devices > camera Google meet via Edge WhatsApp Video call via App

WS 2025 doesn't have cam App

So please go ahead and remove this. Thanks @adrijanh9

Karl-WE avatar Nov 09 '24 12:11 Karl-WE

done

adrijanh9 avatar Nov 09 '24 12:11 adrijanh9

@ntdevlabs this one can be safely merged into Main. Tested and works fine.

Karl-WE avatar Nov 18 '24 12:11 Karl-WE

@Kichura no longer. Tested it with a Standard logitech usb PnP.

Otherwise users can add it from MS Store.
