Inconsistent maxima repl behaviour with empty input

Hitting enter on an empty maxima prompt should have the same behaviour as the julia prompt (bring up a new prompt). Sometimes, especially after hitting CTRL+L this does not happen. Instead you must hit return about 4 times before a new prompt appears

maxima>                      # Hit return
                                    # Hit return again
                                    # Hit return again and new prompt finally triggers

maxima>                         # Hit return key

maxima>                         # <----- correct behaviour
