Symbology: do any new QGIS features solve issues with dense point data?

e.g. earthquakes, wind vectors.

How do we display these point data at various zoom levels? e.g. aggregate many points into one average.

Is there any particular new feature that we're interested in? From looking at the old Trello card, there is no additional detail.

It doesn't make sense to e.g. average magnitudes between an earthquake in 2010 and one in 1980. But this makes lots of sense for the wind vectors.
