We currently have two completely different color schemes, hence this issue. Additionally, the profile aggregates into groups with distinct colors and averages with a buffer, while the track coloring doesn't....

One idea might be to match GPS tracks to the road network (requires #222), count the number of tracks per way and somehow encode that as (MTB-)"popularity" in the routing...

Yes, this would be welcome. I would prefer to include the Control.Appearance plugin as an external lib in our package.json.
