Logged messages don't display

It looks like most logged messages aren't currently displaying and it seems tied to creating the spdlog using <spdlog::async_factory>.

This needs further investigation and cleanup to ensure that logged messages always display.

I'll have to take a look at this. Is this occurring only on Ubuntu? Since Windows has more of a unified way of providing graphics/audio/windowing, it appears as if its working normally there.
