bad spacing on upper nodes when "hourglass shaped"

simple example:

1a -> 2
1b -> 2

2-> 3a
2->3c 

note how node 1b on depth 1 gets bumped over when it should not

I'm thinking the issue is here, but this is my first run in with coffeescript.
