Icons (API) are fun!
What makes the feature necessary? Neuroscientists have shown that the brain can recognize images seen in as short as 13 milliseconds.
Searching visually for the right icon can be cumbersome though . But then again, adding your own icon packs with appropriate names is even more cumbersome and is very limiting.
How would the feature work? Just like all prominent chat apps now integrate Giphy, etc. to insert gifs, Notion-Enhancer can similarly utilize sites with great search functionality and mostly free APIs and icons. I gathered a short list of the best candidates:
| Website | Icons | Free Icons | Free Requests per month | API |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flat Icon | +6.6M | +6.6M | 30000 | https://api.flaticon.com/ |
| The Noun Project | +3m | +3M | 5000 | http://api.thenounproject.com/ |
| Iconfinder | +5m | +200K | 50000 | https://developer.iconfinder.com/reference/overview-1 |
It would be fantastic to work with one of these services so that the user only needs to register, obtain their API key and enter it into Notion-Enhancer and have thousands of beautiful icons readily searchable and addable with a single click.
Besides this feature request, how about teaming up with popular icon/widget creators and letting them have an option to implement their icons regardless of having to visit and download their icons before? There should be an option in Notion Enhancer or in the implemented plugin store to include those icons.
