[Feature request]: Restore recent windows/positions after restarting Obsidian

Open dnngll opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Hello,

it would be great, if Hover Editor could restore the windows/positions (that were open while closing Obsidian) after closing and restarting Obsidian.

Thanks!

If you want to keep a hover editor open in this way, toggle on its view header (or enable them by default) and then drag the header icon out to your desktop - this will turn it into a popup window of similar size. Obsidian will then remember that window and position with the workspace, so it will be kept across restarts.

In newer versions of Obsidian, there is also a "toggle always on top" command that you can use if you want that window to hover over other active windows.

Hello @pjeby ,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this is not the same. @FelipeRearden said it best in https://github.com/nothingislost/obsidian-hover-editor/issues/15#issuecomment-1193102910 .

Are there any plans to change the behavior -> to be able save the popover notes in workspaces?

Thanks

I have no plans to implement that, no. @nothingislost may have plans, but it's been many months since I've heard anything from them.

In the meantime I would suggest doing what I do, which is to convert them to tabs before closing Obsidian, then turning them back to hover editors upon reopening. HE's "dock" and "convert to hover editor" commands work nicely for this, though of course the positions will not be saved, just the file/mode and history. If you're on desktop you can also convert them to secondary windows and back again by dragging (and then using "convert to hover editor" once they're back in the main window).

Hello @pjeby ,

thanks for your reply. It didn't work out for me, so I'll be watching here :)
