Windows 11. Nothing happens
Installed it on Windows 11 and nothing happened after clicking the Desktop Icon.
@1manfactory AVX or AVX2 support. Which CPU you have and restarted your PC?
There are existing issues for this and recently there was a case with antivirus interfering with it: #2364.
Can you check that and add more information about your system/hardware?
I have had the same issue, I do NOT have the AntiVirus installed that was in issue #2364
Initially, the first time I ran chat.exe it opened and ran, and I clicked DOWNLOAD on one of the models. I then looked around at a few settings, and noticed it was using a drive I have no space on as the "Download Folder" (I can't check the text, can't see the program any more)
I clicked on "Browse" to see if it could be changed, and the program became unresponsive, but eventually closed the browse explorer, then became unresponsive again, then locked up and needed to be killed from taskmanager.
Last time it worked, from that point even after reboots, chat loads and can be see in taskmanager but never shows any visual windows or otherwise appears Tried rebooting Tried clearing the cache Also tried moving the cache to a new drive (Cache is created in new folder when I checked after running chat.exe)
I was going to try delete the "download folder" but have no idea where it is other than on a drive with no space EDIT: Found the DL folder and deleted it, cleared cache, rebooted and restarted and still nothing
Nothing happens. Process does not even appear for a second in process list of computer.
Edition Windows 11 Pro Version 23H2 Build 22631.3593 Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1003.0
Deleting cache, deleting database, uninstalling and rebooting and reinstalling and namely, WAITING for about 10 minutes after clicking on chat.exe and the app now works!! (For me at least, can't really help @1manfactory - especially if theirs doesn't even appear in processes when run!)

Can you open up the folder, where is installed by right click on the desktop icon and then "Open path". There is a file called "chat.exe". Open it up as administrator. If this is not working, please uninstall the software. Be sure, the folder where it is installed, that it is removed as well. Then download from here officially and try again:

Ah good, you got it working. 👍
A problem with antivirus software was only the latest occurrence with this kind of symptom (and easy to check). There are other issues where people have reported this, but fixes have been applied, too. If you filter by tag windows-wontstart you'll see a few of them.

@1manfactory Your screenshots look fine to me, i.e. there is no obvious problem with that. Is this the first time you've installed it, or are there possibly any older files still on your system? Also, are you using the latest version (as of 2024-05-24 it's v2.8.0)?
If you have a C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\nomic.ai\GPT4All.ini, append e.g. .bak and a new default configuration file will be created.
