The mastodon listed on the Website is unmaintained
During a slack discussion about pruning the footer icons in the website I noticed that the mastodon account is still in the footer, in past conversations I learned that the foundation's marketing team discontinued the maintainance and would not delegate it to volunteers, so there's very little hope in keeping it alive.
@MattIPv4 suggested to open an issue to track removing it from the footer.

My 2cents: while it probably should not be listed in the footer anymore to avoid steering people to unmaintained channels, the website should still keep the account verification (e.g. with rel="me"?) to avoid imposters.
I think we should make a post on Mastodon inviting people to follow us on BSK (because it's automated and it's also an open source platform).
I also think that the Mastodon account should at least leave some traces about where people are (maybe leave Twitter out of the list since AFAICT declaring "we are not on Mastodon anymore but you can find us on Twitter!" is, um, really not reading the room for an OSS project). Although only the marketing team of the foundation has the credentials of that Mastodon account to do so.
oops I guess you didn't get my idea
- remove the link from the website
- make a post on mastodon inviting people to go to bluesky instead (which is an open source platform)
This is a fairly simple thing to change, adding good first issue
If someone outside the org works on this, one of us will still need to work with @kyliewd to get a post made on the account pointing folks to our other social presences.
I'm going to mark this as on-hold for now pending discussions in https://github.com/nodejs/admin/issues/977 and seeing what comes out of it in terms of the project's social media accounts going forward.
