Closing and reopening to rerun CI.
Testing this on my ThinkPad, this does allow the boot to proceed.
That's whitespace being trimmed.
Dropped the first commit as it's already merged, rebased on master and expanded the error handling as discussed on Discord.
Superseded by #545.
Probably fixed by #542.
