@nmoya don't approve this yet. This is still WIP. I'll try to add more tests for the same. Travis is also failing at the moment.

@nmoya Pls review. Python 3.x tests are still not passing, but I've made a bunch of improvements to the codebase.

Also, rewritten the test file.
