Fix for django version 1.9+

Little changes to allow compatibility with Django 1.9 onwards.

Tested on Django versions 1.8, 1.9, 1.10.2

All travis-ci checks are failing because of:

The command "pip install $DJANGO --use-mirrors" failed and exited with 2 during .

This is probably because --use-mirrors is deprecated and removed for modern versions of pip.
