Hello I was trying to install dotterel app in my Samsung android phone...it's being downloaded and I can see the settings but can't use the front application at all???? Guess what it's not showing... what''s the bug? Please help me with this.
Hi, to use it you need to configure it as a keyboard or input source.
In my Samsung s9 it's easily done by pressing the keyboard icon that pops up when entering text.

Hello, Thanks for replying to my concern mail. As I have been advised to configure the input keyboard system from settings. But I have already tried that. But in settings I can only see the default keyboard of mobile. After installing DOTTEREL it should give an alternate option to change this from settings but didn't.
May I ask for proper links of dotterel keyboard download option along with complete step by step instructions as how to install this in Android mobile.if this is not much to ask for.
That's a request by the way. And I am using a Samsung J series mobile for your information.

You need to enable Dotterel as an input method before it shows up as an input method you can swap to. Follow these instructions: https://www.wikihow.com/Change-Keyboard-on-Android
Hello, yes I have got this☺. Thank you very much! And not to mention its a great app to practice...so kudos to you. I have 2 specific questions...1) suppose I want to use dotterel for practicing some foreign language steno like french or spanish, can I use this like that? If yes then what will be the process for that? How to install foreign dictionaries into dotterel? Can you tell me the process. 2) I can see a NKRO option how will that work? If I attach a NKRO keyboard will dotterel also work in my computer? Please reply to these queries.thanks once again.
If the foreign dictionaries use the Ireland layout then you can add them like a normal dictionary. If they use a different layout then it's not possible currently. I'm planning support for different layouts in the next release but it won't be super easy process.
The NKRO option is for using a keyboard as a steno machine on Android like Plover allows for on a PC. It's still for use on a tablet or phone, not a PC.
Oh! Okay then. Can you tell me how to connect a keyboard with your mobile phone exactly? I am completely unaware about the process. And one more think can you tell me about any site link from where I can download some foreign language dictionaries which will be compatible with DOTTEREL. Thanks once again for all your replies.
If you search for something like android connect keyboard
you'll find a bunch of webpages on how to connect a keyboard.
I'd ask in the Plover community about foreign dictionaries. I don't have any experience with non-English stenography, so I can't really help anymore with that.
I have downloaded Dotterel to Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. I have been able to make the Dotterel on-screen keyboard appear. But with a physical keyboard I have not been able to use Dotterel. I can type QWERTY to Samsung Notes with the physical keyboard. I have found no way to activate Dotterel with the physical keyboard. I expect there are settings that might do it but I do not see any. Please advise. The physical keyboard I am using is Ergodox-EZ.
Open the Dotterel app and go into Machine Settings and enable NKRO under machines. If you go down to key map under NKRO on the same page you can customize the key mapping.
