backgroundselector doesn't show anything

Context

i am using android 11 without bigger changes. can't see anything, the screen dims and i can tap blindly and get a picture.

Steps to reproduce

go to settings, aesthetics, background

Expected behavior

gallery or file manager shows

Actual behavior

dimmed screen, no pictures

I'm afraid I can't repro this in the Android 11 emulator, at least. It might be a Motorola-specific issue, but I'm afraid I don't have any Moto devices to test against.

the strange thing is, that if i open the appswitcher i see the filemanager.
