Hi,
I'm an old time message ease user, and with it requiring subscription, I had to ask myself if it was worth it. The major reason I decided against is that the French layout isn't that good, which is fine for a free option, but not good enough for a paying one.
There are a number of issues with it, such as "*" and "¨" not being available in the letter panel, but only in the number one.
I'm happy to put in the work to iterate on a better French layout, and I'm not really asking the current maintainer to do it, but I would need some direction as to whether this is something you'd be open to, and how you want to proceed with it.

Hey, have you checked out whether @Crazy-Unicooorn's expanded FR layout is closer to your needs (#122)? Otherwise I'd be happy to take a PR for your take on it.

After looking into it, it introduces unjustified discrepancies with the good old ME layout that cannot be explained, and still doesn't have all the French characters, such as « , » or "œ" .
I'd be happy to collaborate with @Crazy-Unicooorn if he/she's up for it and fix that situation without ending up creating 20 different layout for one language, which isn't going to help anyone.

I don't mind changes on my version! I have no experience with ME, feel free to suggest a way to add "œ" and fix the discrepancies 😄
