"Auto-Expand Channels" doesn't work if sidebar is collapsed

As the title says. No matter how long I wait, the followed channels list never expands. If I expand the sidebar then the followed channels list is automatically expanded at the same time and stays expanded when I collapse the sidebar again, but the entire point is that I don't want to have to expand the sidebar.

This on the latest version of Chrome: Version 92.0.4515.159 (Official Build) (64-bit)
