Open ChaoticLogic opened this issue 5 years ago • 9 comments

Fresh install on new computer. Never run before. I have every C++ redist from 2010 to 2017. Running Win10 Home, v 1809 Build 17763.379 Running from 2nd hard drive (not the same drive as fallout) Windows event viewer reports application hung, hang type is unknown.

Update: double-checking, Visual C++ 2017 is installed an replaces version 2014 thru 2016 and is backward compatible according to MS techs.

Starting with Visual Studio 2017 the VC++ Redist version 14.10 and above is a direct upgrade of the previous release, Visual Studio 2015 VC++ Redist version 14.0. The 14.10 and above versions of the VC++ runtimes shipping in Visual Studio 2017 are binary compatible with the versions of the runtimes that shipped in Visual Studio 2015. Any application built with VS 2015 (with a dependency on vcruntime140.dll, etc) will continue to run with the newer version of the runtimes.

Similar issue here. Not sure what to do. It worked fine last week (Same file and everything)

Scratch that. It worked for several hours, but it's hanging again.

I started having the same issue out of the blue today. Was working fine one minute, closed out and then double clicked a .nif and it hung and would not run after that. I checked my installed programs and found I had the vc++ 2015-2019 x86/x64 packages, but couldn't see the pre-req version linked here. I had to uninstall the 2015-2019 versions before I could install the 2015 pre-req version and had no problem after that.

I haven't been able to identify what triggers this on my system but, noticed it started working again after a recent reboot and I'm still able to open files a couple of days later.

For what it's worth, I can consistently create this crash when I allow Nifskope to open on my extended display. I'm using Nvidia drivers in Windows 10. If I disable my extended display, it will open again without crashes so long as I leave it on my main display. I can then reenable my extended display and it will load again.

I can confirm this problem happens whenever the program opens on my secondary monitor. If it opens on my primary monitor, it works. Once it's open, I can move it between monitors without issue (so long as I don't close it on the secondary monitor, causing it to open again on that screen).

As this is literally the only program I've ever seen have this problem, I have no guesses what the cause might be.

Not to necro this, but leaving this here in case it helps other people. For me the issue stopped completely when I stopped and disabled the program "Nahimic service" from the Windows Services screen.

I read that this program can cause issues with certain programs in multi-monitor setups and sure enough, it was the culprit.
