Attribute "weight" is not applicable for product type "Configurable Product"

Hello. I'm getting this error message after "UpdateProduct" call:

Attribute "weight" is not applicable for product type "Configurable Product"

I don't use that field but its value is 0 because it's not nullable. How can I update a product of that type?
