"Application has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware"

Open aLeX1443 opened this issue 7 years ago • 12 comments

Every few hours, I get this message pop up in the Windows Action Centre:

Application has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware. Application ccminer.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware.

20 of these messages pop up before windows logs off the account. I've never actually seen this happen, as it's only occurred overnight or when I'm not around. The only algorithms I have enabled on the GPU are Lyra2REV2, Equihash and Libry.

I have added all of the processes in the NiceHash Miner folder to my Windows Defender exceptions, but the problem continues occurring (I don't have any other antivirus programs installed).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It just happened again at 16:24, and I found this in the log:

UPDATE: I just experienced the issue when switching to Lbry, and shortly after when switching to Equihash (excavator.exe). I completely turned off Windows Defender and it keeps happening. This is starting to get really frustrating.

aLeX1443 avatar May 25 '17 16:05 aLeX1443

This isn't an aspect of windows defender, but WDDM driver model functionality that works in collusion with the TDR system to prevent system crashes due to graphics hardware failure.

I found that turning off SLI fixes the problem, I don't know why, but I'm glad it works now.

aLeX1443 avatar May 26 '17 17:05 aLeX1443

Has anyone found a solution to this that doesn't involve turning off SLI? It's quite annoying to have to turn it on/off whenever you want to game

DillonN avatar Jun 19 '17 13:06 DillonN

I'm testing without SLI now ! Very happy that you found that @aLeX1443 !

mime29 avatar Jul 27 '17 06:07 mime29

Thanks for the workaround. I've heard SLI has no impact on NiceHash/Crypto Mining anyway. Is that true?

Would still like to keep it on for convenience since I also game on the rig I'm mining with, but I can deal with it as long as there's a fix coming.

add a new Dword "TdrDelay" with value as 8 to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers

this helped me, hope it helps someone else too.

Not getting SLI option in Nvidia control panel

Sidkt avatar Jan 15 '18 12:01 Sidkt

@Sidkt the dumb, but obvious question: do you have an SLI Bridge installed between two Nvidia cards of the same model? You can find it under 3D Settings > Configure SLI, Surround, PhysX.

corygehr avatar Jan 16 '18 00:01 corygehr

Yeah i am getting option PhysX configuration it is on auto.

Sidkt avatar Jan 16 '18 11:01 Sidkt

I had same problem. noticed also intermittent pcie slots were not booting up. decided to unplug 4 cards out of 8 to see if I had same problem. In pulling out SATA cable from power supply, noticed one pin had melted! Put in new sata cable in spare sata connector and everything worked! RMAd the EVGA 1600 P2 supply back. Replaced with EVGA 1600 T2 and all is working since. Never thought it could have been hardware power issue but saw/remembered somewhere someone else replaced SATA cable to fix it afterward.
