some question about "metric relative"

Hello, thanks for your good work first! Can I know what's the definition of "Metric"? I have read the paper, but I can't understand the meaning of "metric". I use loftr to get image-to-image correspondences which be used to estimate relative pose by pnp and ransac also can get the same result as yours.
