Video not fullscreen in iOS

Open Matyoto opened this issue 4 years ago • 17 comments

When opening a video on a shared link in iOS, you can't play the video in full screen, only inside the browser.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Create a share link
  2. open a video in iOS on that shared link
  3. use "Full screen"
  4. See that full screen is not working

I expect, that fullscreen should use the whole screen of my iPhone.

I tried to disable the viewer and then it works in iOS but gives me more trouble on Safari on Mac.

  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iOS 14.8
  • NC 22.1.1

It is also not possible to hit the fullscreen button in vertical mode when you have multiple files.

Instead of fullscreen mode the next file will be played.

It's the same in NC 22.2.0.

Watching videos on iOS on a shared link is really buggy.

Any hope that this will get fixed, soon?

It's still broken in NC 24.0. It's a pity, it was working so nice in NC 17 and earlier. It's also working when you share a single video. But once you share a folder with multiple videos it seems like the video engine is disabled and everything is displayed with the viewer in a gallery mode where you don't have fullscreenplayback any more and everything feels a bit buggy. I switched to frame.io a while ago but it would be nice, if that issue could be fixed.

Anybody reading this? Is there hope for a fix in the feature? I'm now using Frame.io for sharing videos but Nextcloud would simplify my workflow, if this would work correctly in iOS browser.

There is a similar issue reported in server repo: https://github.com/nextcloud/server/issues/35504

todo: check if https://github.com/nextcloud/server/pull/35902 fixes this.

I just tried with Nextcloud Hub 3 25.0.2, but still the same issue, unfortunately.

I just tried 25.0.3. Still the same issue :( No fullscreen with multiple videos in a shared link in iOS, just buggy.

me same 25.0.3 ios phone: landscape fullscreen not working at all.

The same applies here. And I agree with @Matyoto, until NC 17 playing a video file worked fine. Suddenly in later versions the playback became more and more buggy. We use both Android and Iphone / Ipad devices. Play video file on Android works well with Edge and Chrome. Strange, if you use the Samsung browser for Android, you get the same playback error as with Safari. We tried Edge and Chrome for iOS on Ipad/Iphone. Absolutely the same playback error. Nextcloud used to have a super gallery and video player, which was removed for the new photogallery for incomprehensible reasons.

Is there any hope for that this bug is fixed in the new NC26 version?

Still not working in latest 27. I had posted this as a bug (https://github.com/nextcloud/server/issues/36366 ) and its been listed as fixed, but it still isn’t.

I don't see this problem anymore in 28.0.3 Can someone please confirm?

Tested with and without the "Memories" app.

Tested with and without the "Memories" app. Yup looks like its fixed! I'm on 29.0.0 beta 6 so not sure when it happened, but I just tested it and its working correctly.

Yes, it works partially. With the "Memories" app, only a loading circle is visible on the iPhone with Safari and Chrome. With the normal Photos app, it finally works on the iPhone. Testet on 2x Iphone 13 Pro. NC 28.0.4

Just testet very quick on an iPhone, yes it seems to work, finally. But it seems a bit buggy. Sometimes I just saw a black screen, sometimes a small picture. And you have to use it horizontally in general, otherwise you can't pause or enlarge to fullscreen because you will hit "previous / next" instead.
