Describe the bug Since iOS nc app 7.x, the text app cannot be edited and is more like a preview mode.

To Reproduce In iOS nc app 7.x and later versions, open any .md file and the display effect is as shown in the figure.

Expected behavior Restore the display effect of 6.x, and edit the .md file

I am not sure if this problem is caused by upgrading to 31.07 or upgrading to IOS nc app 7.x

Thanks for your report @ebfming. Could it be that you disabled or downgraded the Text app on your instance? That could explain why you see the file in read-only mode instead of a full editor in the new iOS app.

Thanks for your report @ebfming. Could it be that you disabled or downgraded the Text app on your instance? That could explain why you see the file in read-only mode instead of a full editor in the new iOS app.

I can't confirm this, but what I can confirm is that in iOS 6.x, it is completely possible to use downgraded text (29.07) and next server 31.06. So, up to now, I can't confirm whether it is a problem caused by the server upgrade or the iOS 7.x upgrade. This bug actually has some commonalities with https://github.com/nextcloud/text/issues/7027#issuecomment-3101431270 . In general: If it is server 31.07 + the latest text (app) + iOS nextcloud 7.x, then the mobile terminal cannot be opened and is always in loading... https://help.nextcloud.com/t/regarding-some-question-with-text-in-nextcloud-app-on-ios-system/189822

If it is < server 31.07 + text (29.07) + iOS nextcloud 6.x, then it is completely usable

If it is server 31.07 + text (29.07) + text nextcloud 6.x, it is the current screenshot status

This is a known issue for 15.X, but could you double check if it does not work on 18.5? If so, could you please create a video showcasing this and share new server and ios logs specifically for 18.5? Thank you.

Hi, I am aware, however since it's not reproducible on my end I need more information. This is why I'm asking if you could please try opening an .md again and post your server AND ios logs at the same time?

I see that the name of the file is with chinese symbols, does an .md document with English letters work fine? In general does every .md document behave the same way?

Also, could you please provide a list of all apps you are currently using on your instance?

1、About reproducing the issue Sure, I can provide the iOS logs again. After updating to the latest version of the NC iOS app yesterday, the text app can no longer open at all. I also recorded a screen video to show you, hope it helps.

The same is happening to me. With the yesterday update IOS App to 7.1.1 now .md are not opened.

I attach the list of mi active apps in mi Nextcloud Hub 10 (31.0.7). Maybe you can find coincidences in order to be able to reproduce the problem.

Now everything is working for me too.

My Nextcloud now is (31.0.9) (before I was on (31.0.7)

Text app 5.0.0 (the same as before)

iOS 18.7 (I think previously I was on 18.5)

By other hand, last week I found my Collabora was broken and probably it was broken when this was not working for me. I'm not sure if collabora is required in order to edit .md files with the iPhone mobile app, but may be you can review if the same is happening to you. My problem with collabora was solved in https://help.nextcloud.com/t/collabora-broken-in-my-aio-nextcloud/232337

Now, i upgrade Nextcloud Server (SNAP) to 31.0.9.

When i open this MD file in Web version NextCloud (Google Chrome from Windows Desktop) - i can edit this file. (Desktop Chrome.jpg)

In native mobile iOS app Nextcloud (ver 7.1.6.1) MD file still downloads and opens only for viewing. (iOS app.jpg)

I want to clarify the situation regarding this issue:

  • I only have a production environment, which I use for my daily work.
  • Currently, I am using an older version of the Text app: https://help.nextcloud.com/t/when-entering-special-symbols-for-chinese-japanese-and-korean-the-system-will-automatically-wrap-the-line/234832
  • I cannot upgrade to the new version because of another issue I previously reported (https://github.com/nextcloud/text/issues/7027), which prevents proper use of the app.
  • In fact, I have been following every Nextcloud update, but the latest version still contains these two issues.

I can provide a screen recording to show the actual behavior, but please note that my production environment is running the older Text version, so it may not fully match your testing setup.

I hope this information helps you investigate and fix the problem.

Thanks for following up. As mentioned before, I only have a production environment that I use for my daily work, so I’m unable to provide a test account or direct access for security and stability reasons.

However, I can record and share a detailed video from my iOS 18.5 device, showing the exact steps to reproduce the issue in the current version of the iOS app and Text app.

Please note that this problem has persisted across multiple versions of both apps, including the latest releases. This suggests that the issue may not be related to my configuration, but rather a consistent compatibility problem between the Text app and the iOS client.

I hope this additional information will help you identify the root cause more easily.
