Allow to join other conversations while in a call
this is not an issue in the web interface as one can open other tabs, but here it's most definitely noticeable.
More research is needed, but it seems that the two solutions adopted by the others is one of the following
- Reserve some portion of the window to the current call's controls and have them always visible no matter which conversation one is in at any given time.
- Open the call view in an entirely new window
I'm more keen on the first solution as it works well for both browser and desktop, but let's think about it cc @jancborchardt @nimishavijay @nickvergessen
I think solution 1 works here as well as for when there is a screenshare or open Viewer in the active call:
Have a speaker view floating in the bottom right. Below the speaker there is a bar with controls for your media.
Opening chat in a new window is already implemented. Like in the browser, you can CTRL+Click on a chat, and it will open chat in a new window.
It also works while being on a call.
P.S. There was a bug in @nextcloud/[email protected] with NcListItem, fixed in @nextcloud/[email protected]. If Talk Desktop is built before that update, opening a chat in a new window natively works neither in desktop nor in web.
See: https://github.com/nextcloud/nextcloud-vue/pull/3922
CTRL+Click might not be an initiative, maybe add a new button to the action menu on a conversation in the chat list?
By the way, Telegram also first added opening chat in a new window by CTRL+Click in beta and then with a new opting on a context menu in the chat list in the release.
Opening chat in a new window is not working even after @nextcloud/vue update. It requires one more fix in @nextcloud/vue...
Any update on this issue? I would like to view or reply to other conversations while in a call and not have to exit a call to read something in another conversation. Currently as a workaround i have to open the web interface and use that.
You can for now Ctrl+MouseClick a conversation, but the new window will not open posted links correctly. But it's a workaround for reading and basic text chatting.
i didn't know control+click worked, but i would prefer solution 1, having a speaker view float like when viewing a screenshare when clicking on a different chat, as it is more intuitive.
it is also how it works in teams, where clicking on the speaker view returns bring the call interface back up with controls
As said, it's just a workaround. Not the final solution.
