App does not require fingerprint to unlock anymore

Open Cplex-Dev-10 opened this issue 3 months ago • 1 comments

Steps to reproduce

On my Samsung ZFold phone: touch the Talk icon. It opens the main screen directly. I can access all chats freely. No fingerprint is requested, although it is configured to do so in the Settings menu.

Expected behaviour

I wish that Talk requests the fingerprint authentication every time. It is not acceptable that, once the phone is unlocked, all chats can just be accessed freely and simply.

Actual behaviour

Talk version 21.2.0 Android 15 One UI 7.0 Android Security patch 01 Aug 2025 Samsung Galaxy ZFold 5

I configured in Talk Settings:

  • to block Talk with "the Android screen lock or a supported biometric method" (I use the regular fingerprint screen lock with many apps -- they all working fine)
  • Time limit to start screen lock: Immediate

What happens:

  • Talk does not require to use the fingerprint at all, even after leaving the app and clicking back again.

My attempts:

  • I tried removing the app from that Android screen ||| that shows recent apps (I don't know how it is called -- Recent apps?) to ensure that it was closed indeed; and then clicking the icon to open it again.
  • Also, I tried holding the icon for a second, choose properties (Information) and force the app interruption, then open it again.
  • weirdly, some times I'm requested to provide fingerprint when I LEAVE the app, not when I enter the app
  • weirdly, some times I click the ||| button for recent apps, and I see two or three instances of Talk running (?!)
  • I also uninstalled and fresh-reinstalled from Google Play store.
  • I also changed the time limit to 30 seconds, restarted the app: no change, same problem.
  • If I hold the icon for a second, I see an option "Open Notes", click on it and THEN I'm requested to use the fingerprint and Talk opens at the screen "Notes to yourself". This is the only method tha works to receive a fingerprint request.
  • otherwise, just touching the icon opens Talk directly, no fingerprints requested.
  • I also have a Talk instance inside the secure area (Samsung KNOX) with the same behavior.

Until recently (not sure how long ago) Talk behaved correctly, requiring fingerprint touch every time.

Note: I also have the Nextcloud app installed (to access folders and files) and it requests a PIN number every time, as I configured it to protect access in addition to unlocking the phone with fingerprinting. So, this Nextcloud client is working correctly.

I understand the problem is with the client only, not related to the Nextcloud server or Talk Sofware on the server.

Thank you for the detailed report @Cplex-Dev-10 👍

For now i can't reproduce this. Tested with: Motorola Edge 50 Pro Samsung Galaxy A32 5G Samsung Galaxy S20FE

Can you please add the diagnosis report? (Settings - Advanced - Diagnosis - share via upper right corner menu)

If I hold the icon for a second, I see an option "Open Notes", click on it and THEN I'm requested to use the fingerprint and Talk opens at the screen "Notes to yourself". This is the only method that works to receive a fingerprint request.

Thanks for finding this out, i guess that's a good starting point to investigate!
