Thank you for reporting @Akrobs Not sure, but this might have been fixed with https://github.com/nextcloud/talk-android/pull/5189 (the apk file of the PR seems to be missing)

It would help if you can test if it#s fixed by v22.0.0 alpha 15: https://download.nextcloud.com/android/talk-alpha/android-talk-220000015.apk which includes #5189

FYI @rapterjet2004

@mahibi I'm testing v22.0.0 alpha 15 , but still report: Please continue the login process in the browser.

P.S. Install v22.0.0 alpha 15, after remove old app.

Not sure if i understand your descriptions correctly.

The expected behavior since https://github.com/nextcloud/talk-android/pull/5100 (also see the screenvideo of the PR) is:

  • enter the url in the android talk app
  • inside the talk app, the text "Please continue the login process in the browser" is shown
  • at the same time, the default browser of android opens and shows the "Connect to your account" screen with the Login button

Depending on if there is already a session or not the login process might differ, but it should be something like:

  • When clicking on login button, the "Grant access" button is shown and needs to be confirmed
  • Then the password need to be entered
  • "Account connected" is shown in the browser
  • You return to the app and it should automatically login to the account

Where exactly is something not working for you @Akrobs ? Would be great if you cloud share a screenvideo.

@Akrobs , same happens to me too.

@mahibi I confirm the same problem. It was with one OnePlus13 and Nextcloud talk 21.2.0 RC1 (android client). The app was deleted and data removed a few times, and always happens the same.

I do have the same problem. Android 10, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, I tested with 22.0.0 Alpha 15, the problem is the same.

Before I attempted with the latest version at the F-Droid.

Ohh!!!! I installed 21.1.2, and I found the difference!

  • The 21.1.2 seems uses the custom browser overlay that makes proper return to the login Activity.
  • Newer version opens external browser (In my case, it opens Firefox), and when switching back to the NextCloud Talk, it just stucks and does nothing.

I hope this info would be useful for further debugging.

With 21.2.0rc1 or the latest alpha versions, login v2 is included which opens the external browser on android. But it seems there is still something wrong..

@Akrobs or @Wohlstand If it's okay for you, could you create test accounts on your nextcloud instances and share the url and credentials? Just send it to marcel dot hibbe at nextcloud dot com It would speed up to find out whats going wrong..

mahibi avatar Aug 18 '25 10:08 mahibi

@mahibi, of course. My server is recently upgraded to latest version by the way. But that changes nothing, bug is still be here on Android client.

Wohlstand avatar Aug 18 '25 10:08 Wohlstand

@mahibi, I made a test account for you and sent you credentials.

Thank you @Wohlstand , just tried and it works fine for me. It still fails for you? Will test with more devices..

With the same account where it fails for you on Android Talk.. does the login succeed with the Android Files app??

mahibi avatar Aug 19 '25 15:08 mahibi

@rapterjet2004 any ideas why it could fail?

I didn't yet tried that, I already logged in for a while, and I didn't re-logged that. I could try some on another devices to don't ruin my thing.

Wohlstand avatar Aug 19 '25 16:08 Wohlstand

t still fails for you? Will test with more devices..

On my end - Samsung Galaxy Note 9, with Android 10, and few days ago I tested, and it failed.

Wohlstand avatar Aug 19 '25 16:08 Wohlstand

most probably we are reverting to login v1 for 21.2.0. login v2 caused too much problems for now and we need more time to sort it out
