"sort by" for album/folders view
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. I can not chose how photos are sorted in album-view. Seems to be either modified-time or alphabetical backwards.
I have all my files named in a way so that alphabetical/numerical sorting is the correct order. (that is: Image123 or YYYY-MM-DD, both result in the same chronological order)
Describe the solution you'd like dropdowns like in file-view to adjust the sorting, and/or an option to set a default.
Describe alternatives you've considered None. Sorting alphabetically should be available. Touching the timestamps of all files is not a viable alternative.

For me, this also includes sorting photos by "date taken". Almost all my albums tell a story and stories have a sequence of events. Not being able the sort by date taken causes all timelines to be scrambled.
Usually all photos are uploaded at the end of an event by a couple of people. With different devices, having different naming conventions for images. So sorting by name is almost impossible.
I second the request for being able to set a default ordering and in addition having a sorting option by "date taken", which is the only thing that makes sense, especially when you have mixed sources like holiday pics from DSLR + phone with differing file names and possibly a time difference or even wrong date (like when phone switches to local TZ of the country your are in but DSLR stays in the TZ of your home country).
@skjnldsv what is the current sort order? If it’s modified date, it should indeed be date taken instead, as that makes more sense in the flow of pictures as people describe.

We don't have access to this. Thus our recent discussions on the metadata app.
I recently started using the photos app more, because of the added shared albums. But I really miss the sorting options. I found multiple related issues:

Is there any progress on any one of the sorting options? It does not seem to be name based, so I guess it's sorted on file modified date (looking at the other issues) right now. Which really doesn't work for me and I think doesn't really work that well for photos in general. Using alphabetical name would work better.
It seems like Memories(https://github.com/pulsejet/memories) uses exiftool to extract the exif data, which works really well in my experience, why shouldn't this be possible for Photos?
I have also installed Nextcloud again for a long time. Why can't the user sort photo albums manually? Why isn't the default sorting "Creation date"? If meta data support is missing, please bring this into core ...
