[Widget] Blue bars and doesn't take me directly to edit, always new note
This issue respects the following points:
- [x] I have read the FAQ
- [x] I have searched for existing issues
- [x] The issue affects the Notes Android app, neither the Notes server app nor the Nextcloud Android app.
Describe the bug
When I have the widget on the home screen it now shows large blue bars over weird sections of the text as if it is a rendering issue. This only started happening in the last half week or so.
Additionally when I click/tap on any of the notes in the list it now just takes me to creating a new note, instead of editing/viewing the one I clicked/tapped on.
Expected behavior
I expect the blue bars to not block the text so I can actually read the name of the note, and when I click/tap on notes I want to edit/view that note, instead of creating yet another new note.

Stacktrace
No response
This is a cropped version of what it looks like (the blue bars).
I don't have the rendering problems, but I can confirm the issue that tapping on a note widget on my home screen leads to a new note instead of editing/viewing the one I tapped on.
This behavior was there on my Pixel 8a with Android 15 and is still there with Android 16. The problem exists since roughly 1 week. Removing and recreating the widget does not help.
On Notes v4.4.0 from f-droid I also have the new note instead of widget note editing issue. It was ok in v4.3.1
I also have both problems (new note and blue bars). Also the heading of the widget and the +-symbol to add new notes are missing.
Android 15, Notes 4.4.2 (Google Play), Nextcloud App 3.32.2 (Google Play)
Same here (Samsung Galaxy S24). The widget is now close to useless.

Ahh yes the + symbol is missing for me too!
I also get all the undesired effects on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 tablet, so not isolated to my phone.
Is there any way we can roll back to earlier versions? I don't know if Google Play offers that as an option.
Hi!
I've been having the same problem for a few days now. I've attached a screenshot of the problem.
- Nextcloud Note 4.4.1 (f-droid)
- Android 15 (Nothing OS 3.2)
- Nextcloud 3.32.2 (in case it helps)
I also swear there's no bar at the top for quickly creating notes.
I got the same issue with the blue bars in a notes list widget (Android 12, Samsung S10e). But tapping on a specific note opens exactly this note (expected behavior) , not a new one like reported by others.
However: Wasn't there the name (category) of a note-list at the top of a list in a List Widget displayed before ? This category is missing now in my list-widgets. There are now only the names of the different notes displayed without the category at the top.
I have the obtainium/github version Pixel8 graphene os android 16 No blue line, but issue that it opens a new note instead of editing the one I click one Issue on the two widget types, list and single note
I noticed that when I change the name of the note, it works just once
So considering this is very obviously a regression... can we get this fixed please? It's been 3 weeks and the notes app which I paid for by the way is somewhat useless now. :/ and I don't seem to have the option to roll back to a previous version.
The mistery of the blue bars: When setting the Android display to light the categories are displayed as a tag with blue font and frame on light background. Switching the Android display to dark, only blue bars a shown. Probably the font should be white in this case, but isn't. Unfortunately the widget does not adhere to the dark/light settings of the notes app.

That makes sense, thanks a lot! But opening a note out of the list still creates a new one instead of opening the selectet note.
It's been more than a month and we haven't had any dev chime in. I paid for this app! We really need this regression reversed... COME ON.
With the single note widget I fixed this by adding
templateIntent.putExtra(BaseNoteFragment.PARAM_NOTE_ID, data.noteId) on the line after:
https://github.com/nextcloud/notes-android/blob/316e67e004aaefddf9dfe6efbd4cb9b4039935d6/app/src/main/java/it/niedermann/owncloud/notes/widget/singlenote/SingleNoteWidget.kt#L63
However I can't see why the Kotlin version doesn't work the same as the Java version did. It must be something to do with the setData call since I can't see another way that the note id would have been sent from the Java widget.
So it's now OCTOBER and this was reported in JULY and this hasn't been fixed. COME ON. This was obviously a regression, which should mean correcting this shouldn't take this long, and I don't even think the developers are taking this seriously.
