Tapping on "Plain edit mode" does nothing when "Direct edit" is enabled.
This issue respects the following points:
- [x] I have read the FAQ
- [x] I have searched for existing issues
- [x] The issue affects the Notes Android app, neither the Notes server app nor the Nextcloud Android app.
Describe the bug
- When "Direct Edit" is enabled in settings, and "Notes opening behavior" is "Plain preview" (or "remember my last decision" and last state was preview mode) go into the Notes app
- Select a note
- Tap on text or on "Plain edit mode"
- nothing happens (besides the animation when tapping on "Plain edit mode" button)
- Deactivating "Direct Edit" makes the button "Plain edit mode" functional again.
- When "Direct Edit" mode is enabled, and "Notes opening behavior" is set to "Plain edit mode", it works as expected.
- In my opinion, a completely non-functioning button is not desirable. I think that when "Direct Edit" is enabled, the "Plain edit mode"-button should be hidden, and "Plain preview" should just always be/become "Plain edit mode", as long as "Direct Edit" is enabled
Expected behavior
After tapping on text or on "Plain edit mode", I get to edit the note, while direct edit is activated.

It's happening for me, too. With almost everything I have the same version numbers, except my Nextcloud version is 30.0.6 and I'm using OnePlus 12 with Android 15.
Same issue here! Would love to have this fixed soon.
I experience the same issue on an Asus Zenfone 8.
Same problem. If you click on the "preview" button (open eye) it turns on preview. But, unlike in the sample screenshots, the eye icon is not replaced by a pencil icon, and there is no way to quickly return to editing. The floating "Plain Edit Mode" button does nothing.
I am having the same issue. In the meantime there is a workaround if you're stuck in Preview Mode when opening any notes after pressing the Eye icon. Just go to Settings and change the Notes Opening Behavior to any Edit Mode and it will open all your notes in Edit Mode automatically.
Just wanted to add this here since the Opening Behavior by default is "Remember my last selection" and I wasted some time trying to figure out why I couldn't edit my notes again.
The fact that the developers seem unconcerned is problematic.
Trying out Quillpad, which actually has a very nice interface.
