Describe the bug

1. Tap the eye to switch to view mode
2. When tapping the green button on the bottom, nothing happens, that is, it is not possible to enter edit mode.

The behavior depends on the setting of "Direkt bearbeiten" (direct editing in english?). When switched off, switching between view and edit mode in a note is working.

Would it be possible to have an option to hide the floating button and just have the pencil/eye toggle in the top bar?

Same problem with Nextcloud notes 4.3.0 (f-droid) on android 11 (lineageos 18.1).

I switched off direct editing then I can edit again as before the update of nextcloud notes. Thanks @Phaet 👍

It is a pretty nasty bug.

Another workaround that I found was creating a new note. That switched to editing as well.

Same here. Switching off direct editing fixed it.

I don't know if this is related, but when turning off direct editing, sometimes the note doesn't load (i just get a blank screen)

Same here. Not sure if related, but after I switched off direct editing, edited one note, went back to the notes list, and then reopened the note it killed the note and deleted the file. I had to restore it via nextcloud ui in my browser. F-Droid version 2.3.0 and Android 14

After switching off Direct Edit I can edit notes in Simple mode, but I want to use Advanced editor ☹

Instead of writing a new METOO message you could add a thumbs up for the one you are bound to repeat, it adds much less noise. Let the developers respond, if they can.

• yes it is a bug
• turning off direct editing solves it
  • but people are missing advanced edit then
• starting a new note also switches it back
• unfortunately it cannot be solved by repeating these.

God dam, get tired of trying to replace google etc only to be faced with this crud every single time. I can not switch to simple edit mode after using the view mode. How do these things even get passed even a most simplest quality check?

This is not just an Fdroid issue, on Google Play is also a version 4.3.1 containing this bug 😒 Is the project dead?
